Carpet? Tile? Timber?

Let’s face it, no matter what the flooring you choose, it will get dirty. We walk on it with dirty shoes and bare feet, we drop, we spill and have all sorts of accidents on it.  All floors are potential sewer pits of toxic waste, allergen, bacteria, fungi etc. One is no more healthier than the other. It’s not the type of floorcovering but how it is maintained that counts.

Hard floors such as  tile, stone and timber floors in particular highlight soiling so much so that they encourage far more maintenance than carpet because there’s virtually nowhere for it to hide. Dirt, dust and spills are plainly visible and easily wiped, mopped, swept or even vacuumed up. Not so with carpet. In fact the complete opposite is true. The multi faceted surface of carpet makes it perfect for disguising soils and only disastrous spillages or extreme soiling events tend to attract our attention. After all if you can’t see it then what’s the problem?
